I promise to have full transparency in all my work as a city council member, and ensure all city government is fully transparent to the citizens of Tega Cay. The City is funded with your tax dollars, and you have a right to know how and where your money is being spent. The current use of the cleargov.com website to list city revenues and expenditures is a good start.
It is imperative there is trust between the City Government and the citizens of Tega Cay. Accountability goes hand and hand with Transparency. We all want a results driven government that operates efficiently.
As a 23 year law enforcement veteran, I promise to fully support and fund the city of Tega Cay Police Department. We are one of the safest communities in South Carolina, and I will ensure we stay that way.
I will work with Comporium to explore ways to improve Internet access and reliability for city residents. As a member of the Technology Advisory Board for the Town of Wake Forest, NC, we lead a public / private partnership with the Internet provider Ting to bring Fiber Optic Internet to the Town and its residents.
Comporium now has Fiber Optics to all their neighborhood hubs within Tega Cay which significantly increased the speed and reliability of the Internet within the City.
In October 2023, we announced that Google Fiber has agreed to make Tega Cay the first city in South Carolina to have Google Fiber.
I will add live streaming web cameras to all outdoor sports fields in Tega Cay. This small investment will allow family and friends to watch sporting events via the Internet. Now grandparents or a travelling parent will not have to miss a game.
Live streaming has been installed at Catawba Park fields.
We must continue to embrace technology and were possible include technology to manage assets, resources and services efficiently. This will enable better interaction with the residents, improve public safety, support economic growth and reduce government costs.
Tega Cay must limit growth, while stimulating economic development. It is imperative that the remaining land for development within the City limits is used wisely and effectively. As your city councilmen I will work with the private sector to lead investments in economic development that ensures profitable business opportunities and tax revenues for improved infrastructure.
Main Street has been approved and is under development. Over 100k square feet of commercial development will provide much needed commercial tax revenue and residents will be able to shop, play and eat locally.
We must ensure the local infrastructure is maintained and improved to support community and economic development. As new economic development is planned, the supporting infrastructure must also be included and built prior to the development.
New Water and Wastewater lines have been installed around the city and improvements have been made to the wastewater plant.
The City of Tega Cay should only use annexation when it is mutually beneficial to the City and the property owners.
Annexation was only used three times, once for the Main street development, once for the Wendell Woods development, and once for the new lake front development off Dam Road. All annexations were requested by the property owners and will benefit the City of Tega Cay.
Lake Wylie is one of our most valuable resources as a community. We must work to protect the lake from the effects of development and growth. Recent runoff and sedimentation has caused many coves to become unusable. I will work with Duke Energy, South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency to address these issues. I spent 26 years as an environmental engineer in the Army and 7 years as Special Agent with the Environmental Protection Agency, and I am confident we can find a solution.
I will work to convert the city’s Storm Water committee to an Environmental committee. In February 2021 the City Council discussed the Storm Water committee and stated it only meets on an as needed basis and it has not met in years. I discussed my concerns with council members and recommended the committee be converted to an Environmental committee. The new Environmental committee will still review storm water issues when necessary, but will also handle other topics such as sedimentation, recycling, and erosion. The new committee will work closely with the Planning committee and review environmental impact statements for new development. The committee will also be tasked with drafting the City’s first environmental sustainability plan for approval by the City Council.
As the city grows we need to ensure we maintain proper green space and develop new parks.. The existing parks should be improved over time and include more inclusive playground equipment similar to Trailhead Park.
New sod was installed at Runde Park and Turner Fields.
Catawba Park opened in 2023 and has been a wonderful addition to the city.
Tega Cay is blessed with many wonderful Bike Paths on the Peninsula, but additional Bike Paths are necessary to support the entire population and connect the City.
New walking and bike paths have been approved as part of the Main street and Wendell Woods developments. These paths will connect the city from Hubert Graham Parkway to Catawba Park creating a fully walkable or rideable city.
The third phase of Catawba Park will have a dog park, but I believe we need an additional Dog Park on the west side of Tega Cay. There are many areas of city owned land that are available and would require a minimal investment.
The City Council has recently approved a new cross walk on Tega Cay Drive, and we should continue to work with the SC Department of Transportation to ensure each intersection has a crosswalk available. The safety of the Tega Cay citizens should be a top priority for the City Council.
Two crosswalks now have flashing beacons and the crosswalks on Tega Cay Drive have flags for pedestrians.
In the style of the Model A Concert Series, I would promote more family events within Tega Cay, such as a monthly movie night during the summer where families can gather and watch an outdoor film under the stars.
Outdoor Movie Nights premiered at Catawba Park in the summer of 2023 and more will occur in 2024!
I have been a public servant my entire life and I would like to continue to serve our community. I believe it is important to be actively involved and ensure our City government is there to serve the citizens of Tega Cay. I promise to work for Tega Cay, Every Day!
